Richard Mishaan Joins Other Top Designers In Annual Home Transformation

The home transformed by top designers in this year’s annual project is a townhouse in New York by architect Charles Platt. The house is narrow but huge, over 10,000 square feet and worth over $26 million. GQ‘s article about this transformation explained the challenges designers overcame. The article focusses on “The 13 Most Common Design Mistakes—And How to Fix Them.” Louise Hart’s piece focuses on mistakes men tend to make when designing a room.

Here are thirteen top tips to keep in mind when you design:

  1. Neutrals for a masculine look need color as well in order to add light. You can see this balance play out beautifully in examples like this from Richard Mishaan.

  1. Rougher textures need to be contrasted with smooth or shiny ones. Consider adding the the sophisticated touch of quality architectural glass which is taking the design world by storm.

  1. Rooms are meant to be lived in not just looked at. Think comfort. Think of the activities you enjoy in your home and buy quality pieces that can enhance that experience.

  1. Arranging the furniture against walls is another mistake. Float some pieces instead.

  1. Keep searching until you find the pieces you love. Pinterest is one of my favorite way to browse and check out unique ideas.

  1. Think about proportion.

  1. A small space doesn’t have to mean small furniture. Cut down on the number of pieces.

  1. Showcasing favorite objects will put your personality in the room.

  1. Work with what the room offers. There are ways of camouflaging defects in a room.

  1.  Buy a couple of new pieces

  1. Do some research. There is information out there. Follow twitter accounts of leading design experts which can become a wealth of design wisdom.

  1. Don’t let someone else make your choices. You have to live in the space.

  1. Don’t spend too much money on items that don’t make a difference.

Richard Mishaan, who designed the parlor room and offered the tip about showcasing your special pieces, is a Columbian-born New York-based designer. He owns Richard Mishaan Design as well as Homer Design, both located in New York City. He has two books available. Modern Luxury came out in 2009 and his latest is Artfully Modern, which are both available on Amazon. The lovely books are chock full of gorgeous photos of rooms in his own homes, as well as selections from the many successful designs he’s done for others.

Mishaan says “I have had the same sofas for the past 20 years. They’ve been re-upholstered once, but I feel like if you buy good things one time, they’ll just last.” In an article by the New York Post the fabulous designer Richard Mishaan lays out even more helpful ideas to be mindful of.

Misgivings for Momo

Popular romance and harem anime To LOVE-Ru features one of the largest cast of potential lovers for a male protagonist. Although the series primarily centers on Rito Yuuki’s perverted mishaps, it does manage to flesh out one of the most unique girls to come out of anime.

Momo Belia Deviluke is one of the younger sisters of Lala Satalin Deviluke. Although Lala is betrothed to Rito, Momo devises a scheme to wiggle herself into Rito’s heart. According to her logic, if Rito marries Lala and becomes king of the universe, he will be able to set any rules he wants. A change under his power would be to marry as many girls as he pleases. Momo wishes to persuade various girls to admit their own feelings for Rito in an effort for him to build a harem. It is within the harem that Momo believes she can feel the happiness of gaining Rito’s affection while still maintaining the other girls’ satisfaction.  Definitely already belongs on any of the best yuri anime lists.

Despite believing she would be fine at any rank in Rito’s heart, Momo like many anime girls is shown to, at times, not be content with falling short of first place. She often masks her vulnerability by making flirtatious advances toward him whenever possible. However, when given the opportunity to act seriously upon her emotions, she has been shown to shy away from them. The internal conflict Momo faces in regards to wanting everyone to be happy and admitting to herself what would make her happiest becomes an engaging point in To LOVE-Ru.

Bellamy’s Cuisine

When entrepreneur Bonar decided to establish a restaurant, he started with a bistro. After renaming it Bellamy’s, he started looking for staff at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, which was one of his preferred restaurants. The restaurant was able to attract Trevor Da Costa who was front-of-the-house man, and Mike Reidy as the executive chef.

The arrival of the corn soup met everyone’s expectations. The soup is mixed with cream and treated with some espellete peppers. It is usually served cold on a scallop ceviche with lime juice, cilantro, olive oil, and ginger. The parsley-cream risotto goes well with a poached salmon and a shaved summer truffle.
